Hot & Sleepy

That’s me right now, in a nutshell. There is not enough a/c at all in my little subterranean office cave, and on a 90-degree day, this is not a good thing. It’s making me incredibly tired. I have to give a presentation in half an hour and really, all I want to do is take a nap. Zzzzz.

Of course, tomorrow the temp will probably be set cold enough to make snow, so the HVAC gods can have their vengeance on me for bitching. But seriously, it’s hot.

Patience has its Virtue

As most of you know Sweetpea and my husband have agonized over whether or not to join the iPhone generation. Knowing precious little about all things technological, I have had very little leverage to dissuade them. The one thing I do know is that second generation anything is better than the first (technologically speaking). So I was pleased when I found this in this morning’s newspaper (sorry I don’t know how to do fancy links):

I’m sure the bugs will be worked out soon enough, and a bigger and better iPhone is in our future. Here’s hoping that prospect is enough to get me through a 95 degree / 95 percent humidity Tuesday in Houston, Texas! (That and my pool noodles.)

Nails, Projects, and Wizards

Three things that brought a little beauty into my life this past week:

1. After more than 30 years of trying, I am cautiously optimistic that I have figured out how to stop biting my fingernails. I got a manicure while I was staying with Mom a few weeks ago and didn’t nibble at all whilst my nails were polished, so I’ve been keeping them that way since. And while I hate having polished nails (way too girly and high-maintenance) I am excited to have hands that look like they belong to an adult woman and not an angsty adolescent.

2. This past week I managed to keep my apartment reasonably tidy, rather than letting it slide into chaos, as it ordinarily does. As a result, I had much more time for projects this weekend and have taken care of quite a few items that have been on the to-do list for far too long, and my home is much the better for the effort.

3. I am going to echo my sister’s list from last week and include Pottermania (or wizardpalooza, which I prefer) as my third item. Nearly everywhere I went I saw people reading HP7. I felt like part of the club, albeit a large, non-exclusive one.
