Put on Your Old Green Bonnet…

With the yellow ribbons on it,
And we’ll drink six friars to the grave.
Though we ain’t got knowledge,
We’re a damned good college:
S.I.E.N.A!

***

The last time Siena made it past the first round of the NCAA tournament, I was a senior in high school in the process of choosing a college. Now, I am an alumna facing my 15th reunion. How time flies. (19 years? How, and I mean HOW, can that possibly be?)

It’s strange that, though I really (truly!) don’t care about basketball, I am so excited to see this on the homepage of the Albany Times-Union website:

Put on Your Old Green Bonnet…

Next stop: the Sweet Sixteen, please. It’ll really help me in the pool.

Yeah S.I.E.N.A!!! And is that really your school song? How awesome is that.

And, as I recall, the last time SIENA was in the tournament, there was a measles outbreak in NY and no one was allowed at the games…or did I dream that up?

    Hugs :)

Rout is a great word. They pounded Vandy! Woohoo!

I have Siena winning just the first round (shame on me), but I will have no problem if they make it to the Sweet Sixteen.

    Go Siena!

And yeah, that was our college that had the measles outbreak and they had to play their tournament games to an empty gymnasium.

Yes, Eileen, that was really our song. Do you think I could have made that up?

Actually, that was the “un-official” song. Which means it was the only one that everybody knew!

Dammit, now I’m going to have that stupid song in my head ALL DAMN DAY!!!!!

Yes, it was the unofficial song. The official song was something totally boring.

They don’t really go to the Sweet Sixteen now, right? The next round is the 32 teams, yes? God I don’t understand March Madness.

Wait, I need to know, did you sing the song in the bar? Cause I’ll come for the next game and we can sing it together.

    HOLY CRAP!!!

My mom and Joe were THERE!!!!! They had tickets to the game, and they have tickets to the Villanova game on Sunday!!!!!!

    WILD!!

The only time I ever heard the official song was at graduation, and yes, I think “something totally boring” sums it up. It may have, in fact, also been in Latin, if I recall correctly.

And no, Joanne, I didn’t sing the song in the bar. I was the only Siena person there. (I did, however, sing it to Julia & Michael on the walk home.) If the game tomorrow — which is the round of 32, they need to win to make the Sweet 16 and help my pool — doesn’t conflict with either of our Easter celebrations, let’s plan to go watch the game somewhere and we can sing it together.

    *snort*

Do you really think I have Easter celebration planned for tomorrow?

I’m there. I want to sing the song!

  10. 10 Shannon March 22, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I wish I didn’t have Easter plans…I want to go to the local bar where the Cap Dist alum are convening. >:(

Family crap getting in the way. (grumble grumble)

And Joanne, VERY cool that your family was there and will be there!! GO SAINTS!

Ditto. They just didn’t have it today. But I , like Shannon, did not have them going past the second round anyway.
