My DC: Filled with Ideas

As I mentioned yesterday, I spent the morning of my birthday on a tour of President Lincoln’s Cottage. I’ve been lucky enough to see it at several points in its transformation from government offices (it is located on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home) to a restored historic site. It’s truly remarkable.

My colleagues who work there are an intelligent, creative bunch, and when they couldn’t find original furnishings, or even complete inventories that indicated what belonged in each room, they decided that the rooms would be “filled with ideas” instead of objects. Audio and video supplement a most thorough (and enthusiastic) guided tour. It’s worth a visit.

(WordPress has changed the photo uploading, so apologies for the tiny images. They should get bigger if you click on them.)
