One of the things that I have learned in my physical therapy sessions is that I am not a very good sitter. In fact, I’m so bad that, if it isn’t the entire reason I am there, it is at least a contributing factor. My therapist asked if there is any way I could not sit at work (um, no) or perhaps get up and move every 15 minutes (not if I want to get anything done).
Because of my lack of enthusiasm for the first two options, I am left with re-learning how to sit. This involves having a hand towel, rolled up and bound with athletic tape, stuffed into the small of my back when I am seated. It makes me feel like I am doing a backbend in my chair, though apparently, I look like I am sitting normally. I find it bizarre that sitting correctly feels so unnatural. Shouldn’t doing something the right way feel, well, right?
But I have to admit, it does seem to be helping. I have been sitting this way since Wednesday and my back doesn’t seem to hurt nearly as much at the end of the day.
